NEVADA COUNTY CANCER SUPPORT GROUP

There are many dragons on the cancer journey.

The Sierra Cancer Support group uses the tools of the creative art therapies to manage, slay or transform concerns and fears while creating a safe place to heal.

In this group we will:

  • Explore how music, art, movement and poetry, woven through a supportive therapeutic environment, as well as sharing your journeys, helps us heal through a creative lens.
  • Explore your inner strength as you experience fears and new emotions that come with a cancer diagnosis.
  • Explore life after treatment.
  • Address fear of re-occurrence.
  • Discuss healing from the effects of treatments received.

This is:

  • A safe place to share your story and gain support from those who are also navigating treatment options, psycho- social concerns and effects of cancer on daily life and future plans.
  • A therapist led practice to reduce stress through breathing, music, guided imagery, simple movements and creative expression.

What you can expect:

  • Improved feelings about your body-image and self esteem.
  • Awaken to your own body in relationship to your health and personal awareness and not just to a disease.
  • A feeling of camaraderie and a sense of support- that you are not alone
  • You will gain tools about how to communicate with your doctor, your family and your friends so they can best support you.

Testimonials

“Nandi is a skilled facilitator and has a wonderful way of listening and holding space. She helps us feel safe and to open our hearts to our truth, which is so healing when you have cancer.” Liz

“Nandi’s cancer support group gives me the courage to live life in the highest and most authentic way in the midst of this crazy diagnosis.” Judy

“Cancer takes you out of your conditioned response to life. It wakes you up. Nandi helps us grieve our losses and move through our feelings. There is only so much I can share with my family and friends. It has been an important part of my treatment to have a place I can be honest about how I feel…worried, angry, scared etc.” Rene

“Using art and music and movement, along side the verbal sharing, has helped me deal with my cancer through a creative lens rather then just through the lens of fear. I use the tools I have put in my medicine bag.” Anna

“I can tap into a place of joy in this group, even with cancer!”
